Our team has been working in the stunning Whitley Bay recently (not a bad office view!), carefully dismantling a long-unused boat house that had taken a beating from storms and coastal erosion. The structure had seen better days and now it’s making way for a safer, cleaner shoreline.

The job includes full demolition of the building, removal of the concrete floor slab and foundations down to one metre below ground level, plus clearing out fencing, handrails, and a fair bit of leftover rubbish including a number of tyres!

North Tyneside Council made the call to remove the structure, known locally as the Whitley Bay Boat House, to protect the beach environment and prevent debris from washing into the sea. As they put it:

“The works will be done in a safe and efficient way. We will protect the environment along our stunning coast and remove an eyesore structure that is no longer used for its intended purpose. Without the work taking place, there is a risk of the structure becoming damaged further, which would present a safety risk to people enjoying the beach.”

We’re also removing a non-compliant concrete path and reshaping the surrounding dunes to help restore the natural landscape. The sand from the reshaping will be reused to level and civilise the area, with cobble stones scattered across the surface to give it a more natural, coastal finish.

All demolition materials are being carefully sorted and sent to licensed recycling facilities, keeping things clean, compliant, and environmentally responsible.
