Important Milestone on the Mansfield Connect Project
Last week marked an important milestone on the Mansfield Connect project, with the successful removal of the structural steel beams from the two former link bridges over Stockwell Gate in Mansfield town centre.
A total of 16 steels were removed, including sections up to 15 metres long and weighing almost 4.5 tonnes as part of a carefully planned overnight operation. With a full road closure in place, our team worked through the night to ensure each beam was lifted, processed and removed safely, supported by a 60-tonne crane and specialist cutting equipment.
The steels were cut down on site using oxy-propane equipment operating at temperatures of around 2,800°C, allowing for controlled, precise separation before transportation off site.

This milestone represents another step forward for Mansfield Connect, a key part of the council’s long-term regeneration plans to revitalise the town centre and stimulate future investment.
