Exciting Expansion at Queen’s Medical Centre Neonatal Unit

Through the Maternity and Neonatal Redesign Programme, Nottingham University Hospitals is expanding the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). TRD were the demolition contractor appointed to carry out the refurbishment works before the new construction could begin. Construction has officially begun, with the new neonatal unit scheduled to open in December 2024. This expansion will add 21 more cots, bringing the total to 38, and create a better environment for staff and families.

 

 

Why Is This Important?

 

 

Currently, some premature babies and their families are transferred to other hospitals due to limited local neonatal care. With the expanded NICU, this situation will be less likely, ensuring better access to critical care for newborns.
